Miniatures are a very large part of my life. They have always fascinated me
and, as a child, I had a doll house that I loved to play with. But little girls
grow up and these childhood toys are put away until the time when our
children leave the nest and we are able to return to our earlier pastimes.
My second doll house came when I had an empty room that needed filling.
Every spare piece of wood in our “big” house was put to good use. Before I
knew it, I not only had a house but furniture to fill it. Never mind that all
were very crude. I loved them and the “mini bug” hit me big time.
Next I joined our local miniaturist club and was eager to learn everything.
What I found was a wonderful group of people who were not only friendly but
eager to share their knowledge. The more I learned, the more I enjoyed this
absolutely lovely hobby of ours.
When I discovered how to make miniature hats, the adventure really began. I
have been in business since 1983. It has been a never-ending learning
experience as I have researched the history of hat making, mourning hats,
and the development of styles throughout the years. In 1999 I became a
Fellow of the International Guild of Miniature Artisans. It was a very proud
moment for me.
I recently celebrated my 75th birthday, a time when many slow down and
begin to take life easy. Instead, my bags are packed and I’m off to
another show. Miniatures are keeping me active and busy.
How wonderful!
